Where Does Home Live?
An afternoon of poetry, memories, and heartfelt connections.
What makes a place feel like home? Is it the walls that surround us, the people we love, or the memories we carry with us wherever we go?
On September 25, our Art Club came together for a very special poetry workshop, ¿Dónde habita el hogar? (Where Does Home Live?), led by our wonderful volunteer, Karen Ancajima.
Through poetry, we explored the memories, places, objects, and little everyday moments that make us feel at home.
Our afternoon began with introductions, followed by two beautiful poems: La casa por dentro by Luz Machado and Empeños de una casa by Rossella Di Paolo.
As we read and reflected on these works, we discovered how poetry can bring back memories, awaken emotions, and make us see familiar things in a completely different way.
It was fascinating to see how the same words could mean something different to each of us.

A Little Inspiration, a Lot of Heart
After our readings, Karen guided us into the creative part of the workshop.
She invited us to choose from a variety of images, encouraging us to find one that sparked a memory, a feeling, or a connection to the idea of home.
With soft music playing in the background, we took a moment to slow down, relax, and listen to our own thoughts.
There was no pressure to find the perfect words. We simply allowed our memories and emotions to guide us.
And little by little, our blank pages began to fill with poetry.
Stories Written from the Heart
Then came one of the most touching moments of the afternoon: sharing our poems.
One by one, we read our creations aloud. Some of us wrote about childhood memories, the warmth of family, or places we still carry in our hearts. Others explored love, belonging, and the little details that turn an ordinary space into something truly special.
Each poem was unique, yet every one of them reminded us of something we all share: the desire to feel connected, loved, and at home.
It was a deeply moving experience to listen to one another and discover how much beauty can be found in our personal stories.

More Than Just Words
As the workshop came to an end, we spent a little more time talking and enjoying each other's company.
What began as a simple creative writing activity had become something much more meaningful: an opportunity to connect, share memories, and see the world through someone else's eyes.
A heartfelt thank you to Karen for preparing and leading such a thoughtful workshop, and to everyone who participated and shared their creativity so openly.
We arrived with blank pages and left with poems, memories, and beautiful connections.
And perhaps we discovered something along the way:
Home is not always a place. Sometimes, it lives in the people we love, the memories we treasure, and the stories we share.
