Express Yourself with a Click

A journey through photography, community, and creative expression

Hernan Zerbi’s picture from Double Exposure classes

In 2024, as part of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the IDB Family Association, our Photography Group launched its first exhibition: Titled, Photo Voice.

This project was developed during our photography class with Carlos Morales, a documentary photographer and mixed media artist, based in New York, whom we had the pleasure of meeting through Leo Paez, a devoted association member and the coordinator of the Photography group.

This exhibition was primarily virtual, allowing participants to share their perspectives through images and personal visual narratives. The exhibition was also presented digitally during the Holiday Bazaar, where some prints were displayed and shared with the community.

Colors and Contrast - Echoes of Expressions

Our first physical exhibition

During the following semester, the group continued working together and took an important step forward with the exhibition Colors and Contrast - Echoes of Expression.

This time, we had the opportunity to present our work physically inside the IDB, thanks to a partnership with IDB Lab.

This collaboration became possible through the support and coordination of:

β€’ Gustavo Camacho, our Socio-Cultural Director

β€’ Leo Paez, coordinator of the Photography Group

β€’ And our administrative team, Gabriela and Gretchen

The exhibition was an exciting milestone for the group, as it allowed members to experience their work displayed in a gallery setting and to share their artistic perspectives with a wider audience.

This work will be presented in the exhibition The Frame, which will be displayed at the IDB Staff Association Art Gallery.

What’s next

New creative experiments

While preparing this exhibition, the group has already started exploring new photographic techniques.

In our most recent sessions, we have been working with double exposure, creating layered images full of storytelling behind each image.

On the gallery above are some examples of the creative results and memorable moments from our recent classes. You can see photos from these members:

  1. Leo Paez - eye with letter

  2. Alfredo Rodriguez - building and bird

  3. Raul Garcia Blasquez - birds and poem

  4. Maria Paola - mountain and sparkles

  5. Paola Cuba - road and sparkles

  6. Hernan Zerbi - diving wearing yellow

  7. Jane Pilla - abstract and pink stocks

As we prepare for the opening of our exhibition titled The Frame, we are also getting ready to publish our photography zine in the near future. This will be the culmination of the work produced during our double-exposure course, in which participants had the opportunity to work with superimposed images that fuse narrative, imagination, and visual experimentation.

Alfredo Rodriguez shared with the group an inventive way to color his black and white picture, using a second image made out of a scanned broccoli!

Through these processes and lots of exercises in an app, called Snapseed, participants have developed new creative ways of seeing, thereby broadening their vision of photography.
