Exploring NGA East Building

By Gabriely Simette

The art enthusiast members of IDB Family Association recently enjoyed an exciting tour to the East Building of the National Gallery of Art, guided by the art historian Ana Tallone, we explored the diverse and dynamic world of art movements.

During our visit, we came across various art styles, each showing a different view of the human experience.

Ana Tallone guiding the group through the history behind each art movement

The group was introduced to a variety of artworks representing different artistic movements, including Expressionism, Cubism, German Expressionism, Dadaism, Fauvism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and Minimalism.

The tour allowed us to gain deeper insights into the historical and cultural contexts of each movement. We learned how these artistic revolutions were shaped by the social, political, and cultural forces of their time.

After the tour, our group had the wonderful opportunity to attend a lecture delving into the history and works of Mark Rothko. Following this enlightening session, we proceeded to explore the exhibition "Mark Rothko: Paintings on Paper."
