Granny Square Magic
Weaving Connections Through Crochet
Who would have thought that a few colorful crochet squares could spark something bigger — not just a small, cute pouch, but a beautiful, heartfelt creation in the making? That’s exactly what we’re discovering at our Art Club.
Last Friday, under the loving guidance of our incredibly patient and inspiring teacher, Lourdes Telleria, we dove into the world of crochet with purpose, joy, and lots of yarn!
But this isn’t about simply finishing a small project. It’s about building something meaningful, stitch by stitch. And for those who’ve managed to create several squares (we see you, Selene and Leidy Chica!), the excitement is already brewing for bigger projects. It’s inspiring to watch the creative energy unfold!
The atmosphere in the room was filled with care and creativity: Ana Britto, Sandra Beruto, Leidy Chica, Selene Oliva, and Lucia Lopes Aguirre were all deeply immersed in their threads. Mabel, our dedicated coordinator, popped in while organizing the next semester’s calendar, and Jane, always supportive, moved between spaces, offering her presence.
Cíntia Lima, fresh from the Career Development Workshop, brought renewed enthusiasm, while Maria Alejandra Valencia offered warm words of encouragement. And of course, Deidra Escobar, always ahead and connected, brought her incredible talent and energy to our virtual space, making it feel just as alive as if she were right there with us.
Meanwhile, Mabel and Jane were busy working on a collection of 3D printed flowers, set to bloom in our upcoming Mother’s Day tribute — and preparing a virtual exhibition to share with everyone. But this is about more than crochet.
It’s about presence, patience, and shared purpose. Each square tells a little story of care, and together, they’re becoming a beautiful tapestry of community.
We can’t wait to see what comes next because Granny Square Magic has only just begun
