A morning of painting, reflection, and shared stories
On October 16, we spent the morning with artist and teacher Martina Sestakova, exploring the patterns that are part of our everyday lives.
We began by looking at Australian Indigenous artworks. Then Martina read us a story while we closed our eyes and listened. It was a moment to pause before thinking about our own routines: the things we do almost without noticing, the movements we repeat, and the feelings that return in different situations.
We wrote down some of those observations and explored them with watercolors and colored pencils. On paper, familiar experiences became lines, shapes, and colors. Each of us approached the activity differently, drawing from our own daily lives.
As we shared our paintings, we also shared a little about ourselves. Some reflections were personal; others began whit something we had noticed around us. Painting gave us a starting point for conversation and a chance to listen to one another beyond our usual exchanges.
These moments are part of what we value at the Art Club: having time to make something together and get to know the people beside us
Thank you, Martina, for your thoughtful guidance and for encouraging us to explore our everyday experiences through art. Thank you, too, to everyone who shared their paintings and stories with us.
We each put a little of ourselves on paper. Sharing it was a quiet way of letting each other in.
